“Inspirational” Podcaster Passes Away At Very Young Age

After a battle with bowel cancer that lasted half a decade, the famous podcaster Dame Deborah James passed away at the young age of forty

She presented topics for conversation for the BBC podcast series. Her family shared the tragic news with the world via an Instagram post that outlined how much they were going to miss the talented podcaster.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Dame Deborah James, the most amazing wife, daughter, sister, mummy. Deborah passed away peacefully today, surrounded by her family,” the podcaster’s loved ones wrote in the heartfelt Instagram post speaking about her early death.

James was the main presenter of the BBC podcast You, Me And The Big C. In her final weeks on the air, she helped raise more than $10 million for cancer research. As a result of her good and “tireless” work, she was made a Dame for improving awareness around the disease and helping find a cure for it. Since news of her death broke, her fundraiser has made even more money.

James was first diagnosed with bowel cancer in December 2016. At the time, she was a deputy head teacher. She was told early on in her diagnosis that she would not live very long. They told her that she would not live more than five years. However, she successfully passed that milestone in September 2021 and lived for several more months after that making it all the way to June 2022.

Fans adored James, who was a family woman. She was married to her husband, Sebastian. They shared two children, Hugo, 14, and Eloise, 12. Fans often spoke about how James was an “inspirational” speaker and leader because she candidly shared her struggle with bowel cancer on social media, on Radio 5 Live’s You, and later through her popular podcast.

James revealed tragic news on May 9, 2022. She shared an Instagram post that was a “goodbye” to her fans and followers. At the time, she explained that she was being moved into hospice care at her parents’ home. She would be “surrounded by family” because “my body simply isn’t playing ball.”

To her credit, James vowed to leave “no stone unturned” in her search for a cancer cure. Her fundraising platform, Bowelbabe Fund, which has raised millions of dollars on GoFundMe, was launched to support cancer research. James’s hope was to help people in situations like her, so they and their families do not have to suffer as she did.

In the conclusion of the family’s announcement of James’s Death via Instagram, her loved ones wrote: “A few final things from Deborah. ‘Find a life worth enjoying; take risks; love deeply; have no regrets; and always, always have rebellious hope. And finally, check your poo – it could just save your life.’”

In honor of Dame Deborah James, make sure you go to your cancer screenings with healthcare providers. These are crucial if you hope to catch any developing cancer early enough to have effective treatment.
